What Goes Into a Professional CCTV Installation
Two systems with the same cameras can perform completely differently. What separates them is the thinking that happens before we mount anything. These are the four decisions that make the difference.
Survey and Camera Positioning
We look at how someone would actually approach your property, where they’d come in, and what you’d need to see to identify them afterwards.
Positioning also means thinking about glare from streetlights and headlights, what moves in the frame and will trigger false alerts, and where cabling can run without making a mess.
Cameras and Recording
Modern CCTV is IP-based, which means the cameras are networked devices sending digital video over a data cable, with power carried down the same cable. That’s what allows 4K resolution, on-camera detection that can tell a person from a passing car, and reliable viewing from your phone.
Older analogue systems can’t do any of that, which is why footage from them so often turns out to be unusable.
Where cabling genuinely isn’t practical, wireless CCTV is an option, though it needs designing around your network rather than just bolting on.
Storage and Retention
How long you keep footage depends on how many cameras you have, what resolution they record at, and whether they record continuously or on motion. It’s worth getting right: the single most common complaint we hear is that an incident was discovered a fortnight later and the footage had already been overwritten.
For businesses, there are also data protection considerations. You need a clear reason for recording, a sensible retention period, and a way of handling requests for footage.
Remote Viewing and Monitoring
Every system we install can be viewed from your phone. Beyond that, you can add keyholder response, where our monitoring team contacts your nominated keyholder if something looks wrong, or full remote monitoring with a manned centre watching alerts as they come in.
SSAIB Certified Installers
SSAIB (Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board) certification means our work is independently inspected against recognised standards. Our installations are designed and fitted in line with the relevant British Standards, and you get the test results and documentation to prove it.
For most homes it’s optional. For commercial premises it’s often what your insurer expects, and for anything involving monitored police response it’s a requirement rather than a nice-to-have.

Frequently Asked Questions About CCTV Installation
You may have a few questions before installing CCTV. We’ve answered the ones we’re asked most often below.
How much does CCTV installation cost in Lincolnshire?
It depends on the number of cameras, the resolution, how far the cable runs and how straightforward the building is to work in.
What pushes a price up: long or awkward cable runs, listed or solid-wall buildings, three-storey properties, scaffolding or access equipment, longer retention, and monitored response. We’ll give you a fixed written quote after the survey, so there are no surprises.
How long does an installation take?
Most domestic systems are a single day. Larger commercial and farm installations usually run to two or three, sometimes more if there’s civils work or new cabling infrastructure involved. We’ll tell you at quote stage.
Do I need a professional installer, or will a DIY kit do?
A DIY kit will record something. Whether it records anything useful is the question. The difference is in the survey. For example, camera height and angle, lens choice for the distance you’re covering, storage sized to a sensible retention period, and detection tuned so you aren’t ignoring your own alerts by week two.
What areas of Lincolnshire do you cover?
The whole county and the surrounding area, from Lincoln and Grantham down to Stamford and Spalding, out to Louth and the Wolds, and up to Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
Can you repair or take over a system another company installed?
Usually, yes. We work with all the major manufacturers and we’re happy to take on systems we didn’t install, whether that’s a one-off repair or an ongoing maintenance plan. If a system genuinely can’t be supported any more, we’ll tell you that rather than keep patching it.
What’s the difference between analogue and IP CCTV?
Analogue sends a video signal down coaxial cable to a DVR. IP cameras are networked devices sending digital video over data cable to an NVR, with power carried down the same cable. IP gives you far higher resolution, on-camera analytics, and remote access you can rely on. Almost everything installed today is IP.
Can you upgrade my existing cameras without re-cabling?
Often, yes. Converters let modern IP cameras run over the coaxial cable that’s already in place, which means you get 4K footage without anyone lifting floorboards. Worth checking before you assume an upgrade means starting over.
Do I need SSAIB certification?
Not always. It’s optional for most homes, commonly expected by commercial insurers, and required for monitored police response. Where it isn’t required, it’s still a reasonable way of checking that whoever’s quoting you is inspected by somebody.
